Taking A Day Trip From Denver

Are you considering taking a vacation in Denver? There are many options for what to do when you are there. In fact, you might just be so busy that you aren’t able to get everything done in a single trip. Some of the fun things you can do are right in the city but don’t overlook the possibility of taking a few day trips out into the surrounding area. Here are a few things you might enjoy doing.

One of the great things about staying in Denver is that you are so close to some of the best parks in the country. One of those is located just 90 minutes from the city, the Rocky Mountain National Park. This is the most popular place for vacationers to visit in Colorado but with so much area, you can still feel as if you are on your own. One of the things you will want to see is Bear Lake. Take the time to hike near the lake and check out the beaver dams.

Another option that is just 2 hours from the city is the Florissant Fossil Beds Monument. When you visit the area, you will be in a lake bed that was preserved for over 35 million years. The ecosystem is fascinating and the surrounding area is breathtaking to see. Be sure to check out the mile-long hike through the petrified forest, where you can see ancient Redwood stumps preserved from millions of years ago.

If you want to venture a little further outside of the city, you will enjoy the Curecanti National Recreation Area. Located approximately 4 hours from the city, it is the largest water area in the state. While you are there, take the boat tour through the Black Canyon. You will not regret taking the time to do it

Finally, you can check out the Great Sand Dunes National Park. When visiting, you will see some of the highest sand dunes in the world, some of which rise to over 800 feet high.

These are just a few of the many options you have at your disposal when visiting Denver Colorado. Take the time to enjoy the countryside, not only in the areas that were discussed here but everything in between. When you see all that the city and surrounding area has to offer, you will find that it pulls you back year after year.
